All Scripture references in the following post are taken from the NWT Translation of the Bible. This is intended for reaching out to Jehovah’s Witnesses. This post is not intended as a full defense of the Triune nature of God as that defense would be done with a more accurate translation of the Bible. 

In the book of Deuteronomy 6:4 we find God’s revelation which says “Jehovah our God is one Jehovah”. Also in the book of Isaiah 43:11 we find another revelation which says “I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior”. With these verses in mind, we can trust God’s promise that He is the only one God (Jehovah) who is our only Savior.

To support this great truth, revealed to us by God, we can also look at other references in the Bible. For example, in the Old Testament, in Hosea 13:4 “But I am Jehovah your God from the land of Egypt; You knew no God except me, And besides me there is no savior”. Psalm 3:8 says “Salvation belongs to Jehovah” and Psalm 37:39, “The salvation of the righteous is from Jehovah”. In Jonah 2:9 “…Salvation is from Jehovah”. We can also find support in the New Testament in Luke 1:47 “… and my spirit cannot keep from being overjoyed at God my Savior”. Also in 1 Timothy 4:10 “…we have rested our hope on a living God, who is a Savior…” and 1 Timothy 2:3 “This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God…”

After examining these verses of the Holy Scripture, we have no shadow of doubt that He, the only God (Jehovah) is our only Savior. With this in mind, let us now find out what the Holy Scripture says about our Lord Jesus Christ. Start with the letter to Philippians 3:20 “But our citizenship exists in the heavens, and we are eagerly waiting for a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ”. Also look in the Gospel of Luke 2:11 “…For today there was born to you in David’s city a savior, who is Christ the Lord…” Reading in 2 Peter 1:11 we find, “In fact, in this way you will be richly granted entrance into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”. In 2 Timothy 1:10 again we see, “…now it has been made clearly evident through the manifestation of our Savior, Christ Jesus…” In 1 John 4:14 the Bible says; “In addition, we ourselves have seen and are bearing witness that the Father has sent his Son as Savior of the world”.

So, what are all these verses, which speak of Jesus Christ, pointing to? Going back to Deuteronomy 6:4 and Isaiah 43:11 we find there… “God promised to us that He is our only God (Jehovah) who is our only Savior.” There then can only be one conclusion to what God is saying to us in the Scriptures. They reveal to us the Lord Jesus Christ as God, the only Savior. Thomas had grasped this truth very well. When he met Jesus, after His resurrection, the Gospel of John 20:28 says, “In answer Thomas said to him: “My Lord and my God””. The Apostle Peter in his letter (2 Peter 1:1) also referred to “…our God and the Savior Jesus Christ”. In the same way, in the Old Testament, the prophet Isaiah spoke of our Lord Jesus when he prophesied in Isaiah 9:6 “For a child has been born to us, A son has been given to us; And the rulership will rest on his shoulder. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God”. Not only did the Apostles and the prophets testify that Jesus Christ is God, equal with the Father but even Jesus himself proclaimed this truth. For example, in the Gospel of John 10:38 and 14:11 He said “…The Father is in union with me and I am in union with the Father” and if this would not be convincing enough, in the Gospel of John 10:30 Jesus said; “I and the Father are one.”

The Holy Scripture reveals to us the absolute holiness of God and gives us a better understanding of God himself. God, through the Holy Spirit, opens up the Scriptures to us, and shows us plainly, how we can understand our Creator. God has shown Himself in the Holy Scripture as one true eternal God in three persons, each distinct from the other; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are one God, the same in substance and equal in power and glory, called by us, the Holy Trinity.

As one last proof consider the Holy Spirit. Anyone who is familiar with the text of the Holy Scripture would notice that the Holy Spirit takes very active part in every divine activity of God. The Holy Spirit is a real person and just as the Father and the Son He is the eternal God. He is not a “force”. The Scriptures inform us that the Holy Spirit is a person by telling us plainly, that He is our; helper, teacher, witness and guide, He is also called the spirit of truth. Holy Spirit also; speaks, hears, leads, gives evidence, appoints and dwells. No “force” can do these things. Here are few reference in the Bible, where Scripture speaks of these attributes of the Holy Spirit: John 14:16-17, 14:26, 15:26, 16:7-8 and 16:13-15, Matthew 10:20, Acts 8:39, 13:2, 20:23 and  20:28, Romans 8:9, 8:14, 8:16, and 8:26, 1 Corinthians 2:13, First John 15:16 and Revelation 2:7

Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew 28:19 “Go, therefore, and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit”  Jesus did not say “…in the names…” speaking of three different beings, but He said “…the “name” of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” stressing a unity of these three persons in one Godhead.

The Holy Spirit existed before all creation, which also means before “time” was created. We read in the book of Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God…” In Genesis 1:2 God reveals to us, that the Holy Spirit was moving over the waters, which tells us that the Holy Spirit was present at the beginning of creation. We know this to include the creation of time, as the “beginning”. Only God is outside of time; God always was, is and will be.

So, as we look into the Holy Scripture, we can easily see, all these evidences prove that the Holy Spirit is a Person who, along with God the Father and Jesus Christ is eternal, and who existed before the beginning of the creation. Of Jesus Christ the Scripture says in Gospel of John 1:3 “All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence”.  Since only God is eternal, without beginning, these Scriptures show us without doubt that Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is the eternal God, the second and the third person of the Godhead, the members of the Trinity.
